Generally, chains are made of metals such as steel and nickel alloy. Modern saw chains are designed for higher power and reliability. They are manufactured with multi-layered chrome plating to give excellent wear resistance. Also, the rivets are pre-lubricated to prevent wear and warping.
If you are working with frozen wood, you should choose a semi-chisel chain. This type of chain has fully rounded working corners, which helps it to hold an edge for a longer time. It is also suitable for dirty or hard wood.
For larger applications, you can use a skip chain. The skip chain has fewer cutters per unit length. Compared to a full complement chain, it absorbs less power from the motor. However, it produces a more open chain layout.
