How to Choose the Right Harvester Chain?

Updated:06-03-2023
If you are looking for a new chainsaw, there are a few things to consider before you buy. You need to think about the type of wood you want to cut and the overall design of the saw. Choosing the correct chain is also important.

Generally, chains are made of metals such as steel and nickel alloy. Modern saw chains are designed for higher power and reliability. They are manufactured with multi-layered chrome plating to give excellent wear resistance. Also, the rivets are pre-lubricated to prevent wear and warping.

If you are working with frozen wood, you should choose a semi-chisel chain. This type of chain has fully rounded working corners, which helps it to hold an edge for a longer time. It is also suitable for dirty or hard wood.

For larger applications, you can use a skip chain. The skip chain has fewer cutters per unit length. Compared to a full complement chain, it absorbs less power from the motor. However, it produces a more open chain layout.
